Aris Angelis

Before taking on the new General Secretariat for Strategic Planning, Dr Aris Angelis was Assistant Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Services Research and Policy at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), where he remains a Visiting Associate Professor. The responsibilities of his position among others included the development of a research program aiming at evaluating new oncology products at an early stage using pharmacoeconomic and decision analysis techniques, with the support of the English Health Technology Assessment (HTA) organization, National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Before joining LSHTM, Dr Angelis was a Research Fellow and a Guest Teacher at the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he remains a Visiting Fellow. While at LSE, he co-led and participated in various EU-funded projects, in collaboration with different HTA bodies.

Dr Angelis received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Policy and Economics from the LSE. He also holds an MSc in International Health Policy from the LSE, an MSc in Biopharmacy from King’s College London and a BSc in Biochemistry from Imperial College London

In the past, Dr Angelis has undertaken contracted research, training and advisory work for the European Commission, the World Health Organization, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and national Ministries of Health, including the UK Department of Health and Social Care. He has published numerous research papers and studies in leading academic peer reviewed journals.
